alternator (install)question

I'm going to be doing an amp and sub install pretty soon. I'm going to be running a rockford 4 channel 100RMS x 4 and an alpine mono 1000RMS x 1 (I'm running two 12 alpine type r's). So my question is what high power alternator can I put in directly (my stock one is a tight fit already) without too much hassle, in other words what model would fit my 89 DX wagon?

i think this question has been asked before... try a search.
  • Oh okay, sorry my search wasn't working for some reason, I think my isp is screwing with me

    no worries
  • Okay I got a new alternator that dishes out 160 amps as, but the problem is that the space that I used to get out my old alternator is too small for a the new one to get in.

Basically the axle is blocking it from getting it in there because the space I use is in the underside of the car.

Any other ways of getting in besides removing the axle. If not it's not the end of the world cause I can afford to sub it to a shop, it's just I would like to save my money if possible.

There's a posting about this somewhere, but may not apply to ur larger alt.WHich side are you going in from?I think they came in from the right side.
  • Yeah I tried to find a posting I but couldn't find one like mine.

The space I was able to get the stock one out was on the driver side. And another question, what stuff do I need to rewire, I know about the power wire but is there anything else I need to rewire?
  • I'd add a whole bunch of bigger earths.

I'll be doing 4AWG from battery to alternator. 4AWG from alternator to the trunk for amps and shizzle.

4AWG GND from alternator bolt to chassis and again from the gearbox side and the battery to different points on the main frame.

I've had lots of noise in previous Honda's It's a frikkin nightmare trying to get rid of it.
  • Yeah I was searching around and I found about doing "the big three"
It seems not to difficult to do, and I did find people that were saying to get the alternator in the engine area they removed the master cylinder.

I got the wiring for the install from an amp kit (thanks to my Best Buy employee discount). For the positive cable that goes to the battery, should it have a fuse or not because a part of the cable already has an inline fuse holder, if not I'll just use the other part.
  • There is one there stock.
I've got a bunch of high current circuit breakers and I'd be using one on my setup.

I changed mine the other day, just unhooked the speedo cable and snaked it right up between the heater hoses...much less hassle than master cylinder.

Did a search using ''alternator''.Titled,''Alternator removal Prob''.Don't know if it'll help 'cuz it cvrs 4wd,but talks of 2WD too.Your alt. might be larger too.

    Good Luck.
  • Yeah I looked into that before, I've been going off of that one before.

But I'm doing the install tomorrow so hopefully all will go well. Then I just got to hook up the amps and subs and new speakers (I'm getting Kappas now, Best Buy started carrying them so I get them for cheap!)
  • Okay finished the big three today, still need to put in the HO alternator though but that'll have to wait till next Sunday. It rained almost the entire weekend and I don't have a garage. Luckily it stopped today
  • If it were my car I'd add some capaciters to the sound system, they help to feed power when needed instead of when the bass hits having your headlights flash when its robbing power. Capaciters act as a buffer basically.
