Engine timing: how close is too far?

So I replaced the crank seal on my d16a6 and put a new timing cover on after replacing the timing belt and lining up the timing marks as best I could see. Now, the lower timing cover has a sort of timing "aimer" (one long plastic triangle that you line up between two smaller plastic triangles) that should line up with the tic mark on the lower crank pulley.

Right now that tic mark is only a millimeter off (literally, just one tiny bit). Is that close enough?

I figured so since there's much more than just a millimeter between each of the teeth on the upper timing sprocket.

  • just to be sure, i would put a long screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole, and rotate the crank until the screwdriver goes up as far as it can, and see where the timing mark is then.
