what should i check after alternator shorts out? list of replaced parts.

ok the alternator was shorted a while back when a buddy helped put the car back together. he didnt tighten the stud that gives the positive out of the alt. so it was just tapping the pole on the alt while i was driving. eventually it shorted out the unit and some other stuff.

since then i have replaced a lot of stuff to fix the problem.

problem:
the car seems to bogg down and stutter while driving.
it will stall intermittedly while at a light.
the rpm will just drop after a little shaking from a normal steady 900 rpm.
gas it, and it seems to struggle to accelerate.

replaced items:
alternator,
ecu,
tps,
map sensor,
new honda engine harness,
new battery,
new distributor.
new aicv,
new fuel pump.

i am not sure what else is related directly to the alt and so i am not sure what to check to see what else could be still damaged.

what else could i need to check?
main relay?
any other relays?
maybe a shorted wire? but i dont know where else cause i replaced the engine harness with an oem honda brand new harness.

there is NO cel.

I would check continuity of the wire going from the alternator to the battery. Wiggle it as you test it to make sure its not burnt up, or broken.

the cable that goes there is new.
the engine harness is a brand new honda harness.

    Check ALL fuses!

My battery fuse popped. Left us scratching our heads for a minute...

    the fuse under the hood?
    or
    under the drivers side dash?
    or
    somewhere else ?

Mine was under the hood. Not sure if anything inside would give you trouble. But always worth a check...
  • Check the ELD- just grab one or two from the salvage yard. If that hot wire was not properly bolted to the alt im sure it took a toll on the old ELD.

i noticed that warm up cycle looks good so far.

i thought the ELD would light up the check engine light or the battery light on the cluster?
no cel or batt light ever comes on.
  • It may or may not give you a CEL.

im searching and finding that something might also be grounding out somewhere.
im not sure where to startling looking.

plus the symptoms sounds like the grounding or something might have damaged my distributor.
ill check the ignitor and coil soon.
