A/C clutch engagement

Hey guys, this is for my 2000 Civic EX, not my wagon, but i figured i would ask you guys first :)
So, i have developed a problem. When i run the a/c, the a/c clutch sometimes gets stuck. I know this is not an electrical issue because if i tap the clutch with a rod it kicks in just fine.

Any idea whats causing this? Could i possibly "lubricate" it or something to get it to engage?

it sounds like there is excessive clutch gap. you would either have to replace the clutch, or the compressor with the clutch, or try to find some shims at a shop that does air conditioning.

would replacing the shim shown here in step 2 with a slightly narrower one fix the gap?

i would try that first. sometimes they have more than one shim, if so you can just take some out.

well, i took off the armature and there was only one shim, a 0.2mm one. took it out, and the a/c is engaging properly =D yes!!

we'll see if it stays like this for the next few days.
the clutch seemed to be quite worn though, the car does have over 225,000 miles on it =)
