Buying a wagovan this weekend

Hey guys,

It looks like I'll be purchasing a wagovan this weekend. Going to be my daily driver at this point, but for $500 and 4WD, I really do not believe I can say no. I'll be looking to clean it up a little bit and keep it running as long as I can. I'll be trying my hardest to resist my urge to build the thing, but we will see how that goes. Just want to fix a bit of the body damage, and contain any rust.

Here's some pics of the car I'll be buying.

Unfortunately, that's an old picture. It suffered a small accident over the winter as it's a friend's car currently:

First order of business is going to be getting that door replaced, (Finding a door being the first order of business) and figuring out what I want to do with that quarterpanel situation. I'll be picking the car up this Friday most likely, and I'll evaluate the situation further at that point.

I'm not new to to the Honda game, I've got a 2000 BB6 Prelude with a T3/T04E that I'm finishing up over the next few weeks, but I don't want to daily drive a turbo car. I have enough speeding tickets.

Very nice. Welcome! Sorry to hear about the accident. She's beautiful, I just got mine a few days ago too so all I can say from immediate experience is good luck resisting the urge to tune. :-)

Admittedly, I don't know much outside of the prelude game.

What do I have here then?

I see that, I'm pretty new to anything that's not a prelude, but here's the vin info:

    Model CIVIC
    Year 1988
    Door / Version 5DR / 4WD (1600)
    Transmission 5 Speed - Manual
    System / Component
  • yours would be an RT, since its 4wd. Keep looking around the site, there's tons of useful info!

I'm located in State College, PA.

I've found a wealth of info here already, I'm actually considering buying a welder from harbor freight and giving some rust/body repair a shot. Just a matter of finding a place to do it.

Gotta get the car first though. I put a $200 deposit down on it and I should be picking it up around 3PM friday, so I'll let you guys know how it goes and get some better pictures of what I'm dealing with as far as the damage goes.
