Oh uh....fabricator got his hands on a Minty 85 True 4WD....

Hey guy!

M name is Vince and I recently decided to add a sweet little Shuttle to my Honda stable.

Background - 10+ years of professional Fabricating and MIG/TIG welding. Spent a couple years in a shop running a suspension department and that included making all types of lift/lower/air bag/four link fabrication. Worked at Full Race Motorsports for about 4 years as the head design and prototype engineer for their turbo manifolds. Did a couple years at AFI (Arizona Forced Induction) also prototyping and welding. And for a couple years I have my own custom fabrication shop located in the heart of Tempe Arizona!! Living the dream!

Anyway. A buddy of mine needed a daily driver so I decided to sell him my clean 88 Crx so I could afford to swoop up the wagon. I already have a nice street car project (2003 Ep3 civic Si Turbo) so this little 4WD gem fit in perfectly.

I hope to be able to contribute to this forum!

the only shot i have of it on my camera, haha.

First on the list is a full custom exhaust with a new cat to pass emissions. Then some suspension mods that should add up to about a 3" lift over stock. That coupled with some new 195-75-14s on HX rims and ground clearance should be just about perfect for a little mild off roader/campmobile.

Changed all the fluids and a new thermostat and fan are coming in tomorrow. It does idle a bit high and has a stalling problem when the engine is cold but I'll go through the carb someday. Looks like I have a little diff leak to take care of.

This guy is probably the cleanest most factory honda Ive ever owned, its almost 100% car. Started to blow my mind after the 6+ hours of cleaning it.....the shine was erased however in the first 8.2 seconds I decided to go off the beaten path. Love the way it feels with 4WD engaged, takes a second to go in, dash lights up, hello control. I don't engage it on dry pavement as I found the rear tires skip like a welded diff while turning, don't need that added stress to the rare trans.

    One big question......

Buy tires or a new tubing die size for bash bars?
BFG All terrains or some Grabber AT 2s
I'm thinking OEM 15" steelies.....maybe with added beadlocks

I think i need to stop myself, haha

  • Welcome to the forum. I'm excited to see where this project goes.

This thing needs a build thread in the member's rides section...
  • Just for shits and giggles those are 215/75-15s on 4.5" vw rims. On some 6 inch wide honda rims they might be a tad smaller in diameter. Hmmmm, I already have two of these zero miles but I don't have any 15" rims. Plus I would have to make certain "suspension mods" and some body modification to fit them and stay functional.

I do have 14" Hx rims but will the lack of weight show through later? At 11.8lbs each I'm not too convinced....but this will be pretty light/medium duty.

Should start a build thread soon. Don't expect anything crazy fast as this is my daily though. It carries 10 foot sticks of pipe and tubing great!!!
