sloppy shifter in my 88 RT how do i fix?

out of all the hondas ive owned this is the first one that has a cable shifter so im unfamilar with it. my shifter is a lil' sloppy it reminds me of a VW shifter  and i cant stand VW shifters. is there a plastic bushing or soemthing that just wears out over the years that i can replace or am i stuck with the it? thanx

See the bracket that holds bolts 1 and 32? You can start by tightening the two nuts on the linkages to pull her tighter. Someone said they used a bushing kit for theirs but i had a quick look at mine and can't see any bushes.

thats actually out on the tranny right?

Correct. Where the cables run through the U shaped holes theres a nut on each side of the cable which you can adjust to tighten the cables up.

i actually have some free time to tomarrow to tinker with it i will let ya know what i figure out. now if i can only figure out my clutch problem i will be set
  • go to honda and get parts number 14.. they are the bushings themselves that are connected to each cable.. new ones of these make a world of difference

You need Google's book scanning machine. ;)
  • I've got access to a rather large machine which would scan both sides of a page and make a PDF. Problem is it does mean cutting up the spine.
We've had some success getting manuals from Honda UK in the past, I suppose I can try an email to them and see what happens (probably nothing).
