Prototype: JDM trunk handle/ grab bar completed

Im trying to see if there is any market for this particular item. I have only seen it once on a wagon in the picture below. Its a rear trunk exterior handle, usually you see them on wagons and particularly Subarus in the states every now and then. I want to know if anyone would be interested in this piece and what a reasonable price would be. With the right response this will go into production immediately. As some of you know I was the one that fabbed the bull bar not too long ago. So with enough popularity i can guarantee this will go into production

ps... as for the bull bars, a new design will be measured out and be closer to the jdm shape than the last one. Also possibly a 3rd version

Sample pics.... btw anymore pics of one on a civic wagon would be appreciated.

in!... i will put one on my FIT right now....

that is also the only pic ive seen of one...
  • Before this happens you need to discuss any selling of items with Haydz or Charb. If this is going to be a "production" item it will need to be approved first.

    this

Also, keep in mind that they are also already available. So in reality it's likely a waste of your time. (no reason we can't just use Subaru ones)

understood, pm sent to akiraboy according to forum rules. As for using the subaru idea, a finished bar would be spendy for what it really is. Im shooting for a affordable accessory compared to the subaru cost which I have only found one example for sale online running $80+ for a newer scooby in chrome or stainless. But its fit for a scoob not a civic wagon and I didn't see any dimensions on it so there's no guarantee it will work. I want to make a piece that is fitted for a wagon not retrofitted.

as for a prototype... it is going to made but NOT for sale until permission is granted on this forum. pictures later today...

    FYI- akiraboy does nothing here

I know what the rules say. And they'll be reformed very very soon. Just telling you, you're wasting your time PMing him.

 just playing. I like the idea. I had seen that picture as well and really like the way it looks since it matches really well on the beagle look.

would you have a ball park number on how much they would run?

Pretty cool. First time Ive ever seen anything like that. fits the back of the car really well.

Its prolly not something I would buy as I like less stuff on the outside of my cars, but I could see that being a popular piece if the price was right.

I pm'ed the seller on ebay about this but he said he had sold it.
I am definitely interested in seeing how this turns out.

the OEM one looks like its got a rubber grommet at the ends where it contacts the body.

anyway this could be done for this?
  • looks good

Dont worry I already thought about this when I made it, I didnt want direct contact with the body, that would be stupid. I cut rubber gaskets to go on them and they have been attached like so

they should have them now, I know one has been recieved. I would like to know how these fit since i never got the chance to mount them, so I am awaiting feedback from the first 2 bars so I can edit the design if necessary
  • Here's the latest two that im just finishing up. both are just slightly lower profile than the first two. one is 2.75 and the even lower one just about hugs the hatch at just 2in.

the 2.75" on the left low pro 2" on the right...

    thoughts???? ideas???
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
the JDM one looks as though it leaves quite a bit of space between the trunk and handle, allowing ones fingers to fit under to grab the handle..

my thoughts would bet that the 2.75 is the better way to go.

also it sees the JDM has a "sharper" bend to it, idk how hard it is to accomplish that though.. :P

It will be awhile before the one I purchased reaches Germany. It will be on a boat coming this way 6-8 weeks before it arrives. I can give feedback once it is received but by that time I am sure you will have other opinions about it.
  • NoseNose New Wagonist
I agree with the 2.75 spacing. Chances are good that these will be USED rather than simply admired. I'm thinking about it being used to lift the rear hatch high enough to allow the hydraulic lifts to start doing their job (well...for those of us who're lucky enough to HAVE working hydraulic lifts, right?)...thus we'll need the extra room to run our fat donut-holdin' fingers between the grab bar and the rear hatch.

I've had two major back surgeries and would LOVE to have an easier time gettin' that heavy hatch open. I respectfully vote they be approved by the HCW superiors for production! :)
