major lowering problems, HELP, please

I appologize for any thing I am doing incorrectly up front, this is my first time in any forum. I am having suspension problems on my 90 wagon. It was all stock then i put on GC sleeves with stock shx they bottomed out like crazy. I tried Tokico blues w/ the GC sleeves and ext top hats, the a arm was hitting the body in the fender well. I removed the ext top hats and tried it tonight with the factory top hats and the a arm still hits the body. I also installed camber kits and slid them all the way back hoping the arm would clear the body but it still hits. The car is on factory 13x5 rims with 175-70-13 tires and it is now only 1 1/2" lower than factory. The shx are for 89-91 crx/civic. The arms are hitting the body as soon as i let the jack down. I am getting tired of this problem very quickly this is the third time i have changed everything and now have around 26 hrs invested in this and it is still not right and not driveable. I also have been on this site for about 4 months now reading very different things about lowering these cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm surprised you had any problems with the stock control arms hitting.. When i lowered my first wagon it was DUMPED on GC coilovers and i had at least 1/2 inch between the outer edge of the a-arm and the body. Is the pinch weld in your fender bent in, making your clearance issue? Pics would help us help you =)

    pictures man!
  • Pics would really help. Also depending on what camber kit you are running that may be adding to the problem.

Stock upper a arms are best for slammed setups. Mine is pretty low, only hits the tower on big bumps.

It is an ebay camber kit. This type includes 2 pieces ea.(per front wheel) that go through the body and and then bolt to the a arm with a nut on the bottom you loosen to side the a arm in and out. I am not trying to slam the car I would like to drop it like 1 3/4".

those ebay arms are crap. the baljoints went out on mine in less then 6 months.
    i recommend a set of these... http://www.robearracing.com/pd_revo_sta ... ic_crx.cfm

when i bought them they were $160, 4 years ago.. and still good!

Thank you for the help I put the factory a arm mount back on and it is now clearing the seam in the front wheel well. The car isnt that low and I only have about 3/4" travel between the top of the strut and the bump stop which is cut down to 7/8" long. This is on the front. How long will the tokicos last like this? The spring rate on the front is 450 and the rears are 300. The ride feels kind of soft to me.

My brother has the same problem with his 91 civic hatch, so we had to cut inner part to make it clear but it still looks like it hit at the top, he is going to replace that ebay camber kit with skunk2

I think even the skunk2 has the same problem with hitting the top. I think that's the problem I'm having now. I have skunk2 upper a arm with the ball joints all the way out, but I'm still bottoming out (I'm kinda low too). I am going to pull the suspension and see where everything is bottoming out. The 4th gen civics don't have the wheel well space that the 5th and above do, so we're limited unless we find a different hub assy that's shorter so the upper a arm doesn't sit so high in the wheel well.
