Huge road trip. MIGHT need help in NC--know a good shop?

Hi there again all you Honda folks. Thank you for the tips last summer involving my new head (post blowing the gasket in the Rockies). I'm still burning oil like it's going out of style, but I keep it full and it seems fine. At some point (maybe sooner rather than later) I'll get new rings to fix that. I'm using the 1990 camomobile for my band's music tour this fall. Car is loaded to the max, tricked out with a roof rack and top box (full of clothes and camping gear). We've been on the road 34 days (7000miles) and today, driving up and down mts in WV the car started to overheat. I (having recent enough head symptoms blazed in my memory) freaked out. I pulled off. Check the oil (just fine, not low or frothy). No white exhaust (just the ever present blue puff after engine breaking). But anitfreeze had overflowed into the spillover tank and that was full. I waited a while (30 min) let the car cool (it hadn't overheated to reach the red or blow any steam but I'm overly cautious now). I drove 2 miles and the thermostat was doing the terrible up/down/up/down. I turned around, back to town and to a mechanic shop. We opened the radiator and while it was running added water (I know--but it was all I had). Added better part of 1/2 gallon, and let it idle 10 min. Didn't get hot, fan kicked on when you would expect, nothing boiled out indicating exhaust pockets. So I drove the next 50 miles to Thomas, WV where I am now. I'm a out to perform (I love the banjo--takes my mind off stress, like cars). I have 500 miles to drive to Southport NC tomorrow. Am I going to make it or did I blow my head? Did the car just get warm on the hills b/c it's loaded heavy and for some reason the spillover tank, now full of antifreeze doesn't actually return it to the radiator? Are the car-gods smiling on me? Or am I a fool to be doing a 20,000 mile, 3 month music tour in this 1990 wagon? ....sigh...

I am going to be in NC, and around for the next month. I could get a rental and leave the car at some wonderful shop, if it needs it. Do you all 1) think I should get it checked, in case it needs a new head? and if so, 2) who is best honda civic wagon mechanic in the NC, west TN,, GA tri state area?

Thanks all you folks--always so helpful for a girl out here who puts too many miles on my Honda!!!
Sharon

Triad auto in Greensboro, NC. Is the premier Honda shop in the area, my family has been dealing with them for over 30 years. I'll get a # when I get home. Might check out your Boone show, my folks have a cabin there. Good luck, and let me know if I can help!

Thanks for the tip. I will keep that in mind tomorrow when I'm driving. I have Better World Club with a 150mile radius tow, so if I break down anywhere even semi-close to Greensboro, I'll have them tow me there. But Fingers crossed, oil checked and antifreeze topped off, I hope to make it all the way to Southport tomorrow night. Just played a super fun show here in WV. Time to sleep and hit the road early so I can make the 500+miles, with a good time cushion.

Oh,do come out to Boone! I don't know anyone there, but we're looking forward to playing.

Many miles to go....may the honda keep on humming...
