Well any good tint job around here is gonna cost you 3-5 c-notes. With that much money you could get a 2 way alarm and that would protect your stereo a million times better then tint. I also dont think its a good idea to put it on yourself if you dont do it for a living. If you are going to do it, buy good tint. NOT WALMART. walmart tint is a 50/50 chance of it looking good. Around here if you have tint on your car you must have a certificate that says its 35% or less. If you dont have the paper the cop will hand you a razor and say "get scraping bitch" No but they will make you remove it, all of it. I hear in florida they will let you have 95% on all windows. here we cant have it on the windshield or front windows. Say hello to the goober viewing hole

Are you fucking serious? $300-$500 USD?

For a pro job that price is no joke. People wonder why I rock the fish bowl, that and I cant have it on all the windows and i dont want a goober viewing hole. The cheapest I have found for 35% is 300. If you want color (I wanted JDM light bronze) and I was quoted $475, for all windows I should add. too bad we cant get limo tinting.

For a mint job here with a choice of colours you pay $200-$300 NZD. $300NZD = $170USD.

    But we digress...

The tint that has UV protection has a quality mark on the packaging that indicates UV resistant. I would definately pay a professional to do it first time properly as it can get messy.
  • i am planing on doing 10% on the back windows, or mabey limo tint off from ebay, here you can tint the rear windows as dark as you want it just cant be insainly reflective, wow 300 :-O mabey ill pay my buddy to do it, and just wait to c what it looks like before i pay him lol :) yea idk i was trying to choose between a alarm or tint, mabey both

I paid $150 for each of ours, 20% on everything from the b-pillar back, 35% on the front 2 windows, and a windsield strip.

Just a suggestion: Search up the discussions about cargo covers if you're just trying to hide your noisemaker. Tint on just the 3 rears would look like ass anyway.
  • yeah i was thinking about geting a cover but my sub sticks up above the rear seats :-S, yea i wasnt sure if i should do the front ones because here it has to b so far from the top and a certin percentage

I had the same tint %'s as Bam-Bam done to mine in September by a great shop that gave a "lifetime" warranty for the product they used and paid $249.00 out the door. They do all the new Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes for the local dealers, and didn't treat me like I just wheeled up in a clown car - in fact, they really liked it! :D
  • ok cool, im finding out what is going on tomarrow, and what percentage to use and how much

i paid $175 for my wifes accord. i am going to tint my windows with my friend. we sell the tint and supplies at work so it will only cost about $20.
  • hah 20 bucks that must be nice ;-)
  • i got a quote today, 200 for all of the windows, and whatever percentage shade i want with a life time waranty, good deal or no?

check with your local laws and see what you can and cannot have. Like I said a alarm will be a better investment and depending on who your insurance carrier is they may give a discount for a alarm system. Allstate does but the guy that owns the bar I work for runs a allstate office so im rather hooked up.
  • yeap i allready checked how dark it can be its 35% on the front 2 windows and any percentage on the rest, i dont really know alot about alarms.... Any recomendation for a brand name?

viper is what I have on the teg. they make a few different brands. I think it goes viper python then dei or something like that. Viper is all I will buy and i have never had any problems with the unit or the two way pagers. With our viper system you can have one remote work on 4 cars. thats what really caught my attention when looking for a alarm for my wagon and i plan on getting the same alarm for my wagon. food for thought. I recommend that you get a tilt sensor and a microwave sensor (proximity sensor) as the stock shock sensors are a shit. hell i have given it out before so read up!

300+ for tint? That is rediculous. Ive never paid more than 175 for any of my cars. WTF is going on there in Oregon with tints???

On most of my cars I use 15% on the sides and 20% on the rear and a strip of limo across the windhield. Ive even tinted the entire windshield before at 35%.

I used Viper alarms in numorous cars and had really good luck with them. They offer ways to have the keypad open your garage door...I really liked that. My last keypad had four buttons. 1 would open/close the car, 2 would open/close the truck, 3 started the car, and 4 open/close the garage. The same setup also had a way to open/close sunroof/windows with a one touch, and a truck popper, but never bought the appropiate hardware. Loved it till I started not caring about stereo stuff. Now I have no alarms.
  • your wagon died at 310k judas, auto or manual, yea i think im geting an alarm now, thanks guys

This thread may be too old but I did mine a few years ago with the help of a friend (once pro tinter). Now I feel confident doing almost any car. There are a few tricks that anyone can do and you CAN do it yourself. If you still want to give it a try yourself pm me and I'll go through some steps for the back window and rear sides. The door windows are super easy. You could do those and get the pros to do the curved windows...
Do buy quality tint at a tint shop or you'll be sorry.
Here's a decent video. Use JOY dish soap diluted with water in place of their special solution (which is probably JOY and water). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StFgjOD-3sM
  • try to find someone that does it for a living but maybe also does it on the side if you or them buy the tint you choose
then they can install for you might be cheaper and look better
my friend did this for his wrx and got all windows tinted for 100 even cuz the guy buys darker than 35% and does it out of his garage on the side
so once i get enough i'm going to him
although the tint is illegal not too many cops here give tickets for it
    hope that helped any
  • Any one know if there is a tint / film out there that just does UV alone? I don't want to tint but the UV protection for the interior is a plus!

A lot of factory glass blocks some UV rays. (Who knows which rays or all rays? [shrug]) I have Transition eyeglasses and in the car they are no bueno for sunglasses. My '89 wagon has some factory tint (I've no idea what Honda was producing for USDM 20 years ago) so I'm guessing that's blocking some rays.

Having said that I've got two quotes for tint @ $175 in the Atlanta metro area (one from the Northwest, one from the Southeast). Parking in an open lot next to the airport makes getting tint an attractive proposition. It's on my "to do" list.
  • So has any one here ever done the light bronze tint? How did it turn out? Corny or cool? Would you recommend it or not? Pictures would be cool too. I've thought about doing it but I have never seen it to see if it looks good or not.
  • all films have some sort of uv inhibitors, some better then others. its in the mounting adhesive and even better with the use of a weatherable polyester. from clear to limo its all the same for uv.. window film in sun-belt state breaks down faster than in other states. heat rejecting film help prolong the life of films.

    tint lingo-
NR FILMS=means non reflective/very little performance/mostly aesthetics purpose.
HP FILMS=mean high performance/metalized film laminated to nr film or hybrid/good performance/cannot use on most newer cars-it will interfere with electronics.
NANO Ceramic or IR FILMS=means infra-red/oxidized metal so it won't interfere with electronic/same performance as a HP FILM.

there are different hues in films. most use a charcoal, i prefer gray. it has a blue hue natural to the sky and looks more black. charcoal looks more like ray bans, more green/brown look. everyones different.

lifetime warranties is a joke. a better installer with a decent film will last longer than a better film and a decent installer.

i've been in the tint industry since 1990, worked for large and small manus.. all films will eventually fail.
a good installer make a big difference.

jdm glass ask for lumar atrbr 50, if they still make it. most manus. stop making auto bronze, because longevity wasn't there.

i was told windshield started to reject uv from mid to late 80's. auto manus. began to ad uv inhibitor to the adhesive when laminating the glass. you'll notice less cracked dash board too.

    pm if need more info.
  • I have 10%on all wondown. Its impossible to see at night
