100% noooob.

What's up everyone,

I joined this forum basically for the same reasons most of you did. Not only am I knew to the wagon game, but the whole care scene! I hope to learn a lot from this forum and I hope you guys can bare with my newbie questions.

Another thing, I have found a stock honda 91 civic wagon on craigslist. Its a white 4wd with 180,XXX miles with skunk2 adjustable suspension all around. 1600$ delivered to me from CT to NJ. Was wondering if this is a good deal, now since its a far drive and I don't even have a car (yes, this is going to be my first car). Now I guess my question is, if this car is worth it, and what type of questions should I ask to make sure its as legit as possible. Please, any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

I would ask any past history on the car...salvaged title or clean title....any maintenance of it... type of driving they did.... check for rust.... frame damage. im not an expert either but this is some of the obvious.

    what this guy said.
also, white was not available in 4WD (in America) so this means the car has been repainted before, which could mean several things.. (or it isnt a 4WD lol).

i hear a lot of Craigslist scams, be careful you are not trapped into one. not sure how you could go about doing this without seeing the car in person, but see if there is a way not to send full payment till you receive the vehicle.

also, you got a link to this thing?

Hmm I learn something new everyday...didn't know there was no white 4wd in the states.

But yeah , be careful with craigslist scams...they've tried to scam me a few times. Just gotta be too smart lol ;)

Yea there is plenty of scams on craigslist. Tend to rule out people with bad grammar as people who will try to rip you off, not to judge or anything but this guy posted on craigslist "got diz civic wagon 4 sale, hmu for detailz, don bs me," ends up the guy didn't even have the title or photos of the car. Watch for things like this. Has happened to me several times, but I am able to pick bullshit (excuse my french) quickly now.

^^ Another thing, it looks to me like d33kenwagon would have already seen this one on craigslist since he's looking for one in the same area, maybe it's one he's already determined is not-quite-truthful?

Always look for things like (Want car gone ASAP, Call me at this number, phone only). There is no way they won't contact you over craigslist email. If they don't its not worth it. They had the time to post it on craigslist so there shouldn't be a problem right? Also, you'll tend to find people who don't post pictures not to write back to you with a response over email. In my opinion that is pretty shady. Also the most important thing research the area you're going to buy the car, my friend got robbed that way through a transaction on craigslist.

Yeah when buying/selling, if I can I meet the person somewhere public, like a busy post office parking lot.

Thank you for all the feedback. http://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/2560752912.html that's the link to the car. Not that much information, but when I texted him he said; 180,XXX original miles, minor rust on quarter panels, "new muffler",
Skunk2 adjustable suspension all around. I asked him for pictures of the differential, better interior pics, and clearer exterior pictures. I haven't gotten those yet, and he also said he drove it to Honda day.
-I really want a wagon, but with this purchase he said he will deliver it to NJ for 1600$. I would go up to him, but I don't have any means of transportation and I'm not trying to take public transportation, especially if its for nothing.

P.s. how come I'm not allowed in the marketplce?

    Thanks for the replies!

Yea, I wrote to this guy about this car. For one this looks very suspicious. How much did he ask for the car? Look at the title it says 2,500. He went from $4,000 to $3,000 to $2,500. I asked for pictures also, guy never wrote back to me.
  • plenty of good advise here. you are not allowed in the marketplace because if im not mistaking you have to have a total of 20 posts. good luck with your purchase and welcome. it took me months to find a rtawd and the whole time i was also saving up, i finally found one for really cheap and now i have a nice chunk of change left for goodies. so i guess my advice to you is be patient and dont jump at the first oppertunity.

^ totally agree, I found one for 1,200 probably lower the price down more. What stopped me was hurricane Irene, currently flooding everything here, waiting to expect power outages in the morning here in NJ

Thanks for the replies, I will probably just wait it out and try to catch a deal.
