Hi everyone, I just bought my first ever wagon tonight and I am so excited to one up all the local volkswagon enthusiasts (not to knock vw, I just think the wagon is cooler) and I am sure that I will have a lot of questions as it is not in perfect shape. The very first is I am having a problem with the main relay so any chance I could get a suggestion on where to look for one and how to go about installing it. Oh also the one that I found is straight from canada, all the check engine lights are in french... I thought it was awesome. Anyway this might be one of my favorite cars to date, and any help is very appreciated.

    Well I have had it for about 5 days and it has broken down, left me stranded and I am in way too deep. The transmission suffered an internal error, and that lead to an inspection by a local shop and they urged me not to spend the money on it since I am a college student looking for transportation.

    Day 1- main relay problem?
    Then 5 days later you blow the tranny?

    What ended up happening was that when I first bought it, I was informed the main relay had an intermittent issue. On the drive home the transmission blew out on me, it took me a few days to figure out what to do with the car and ultimately I ended up deciding it needed to be parted so I could get some money back as I am a college student who thought this would be a good opportunity for a cool car. So thats about the size of the problem, I had a shop look at it and they said it needed basically all new rubber under the car ie. cracking brake lines, cracking cv boots, the tires were in terrible shape, I knew it needed work but my "car" money ran out a little too quickly and I already started pulling it apart and although I really wish I could put it back together I don't think that is the best idea.
