'89 2wd d15 sputters between 2000-2500 rpm, and more...

Ok, my other wagon has problems too... It sputters at 2-2500 pretty badly under normal conditions, if I ease into it gently it's much less, if I accelerate normally from a stop it wants to die. If it's floored it has no problems! So if I drive like a bat outta hell in my stock, dented, 2wd automatic wagon... (lol) it's fine. But under partial load she's a pain, I have to manually down shift until I'm above 2500, from there on she's fine. Sometimes it's worse than others... Temperature doesn't matter. New plugs, cap, and wires. Picked up a coil/ignitor at pick n pull this morning, going to throw that in now, but I'm suspicious about the fuel system... Thoughts? Thanks in advance! You guys rock!
