Turn Blower motor on, radio turns off

i've searched cant find nothin'

This morning i got in my car, and my radio was off, so i felt the vents and i wasnt getting any air and my blower motor was on 3. I turned it off and my radio turned on.. Would it be the resistor pack that controls the speed's of the fan or maybe a fuse? Any help?

My first thought is grounds. Second is a short somewhere in your harnesses. Has the stereo been in for a long time?
  • i bought the car in feb. 10' and it was in there then, im not sure of when it was put in.. I know that its the stock motor and nothing really has been modified except suspension.. I did take the radio out once to wire in speakers for the rear. I'll have to check my grounds
  • or just solder the wires instead of the stupid wirenuts, anything else? it has to be something simple because all the other electronics work fine

I looked around on H-T and a general google search but couldn't really find anything specific. There was some talk about alternator troubles with general electronics turning off due to power loss, but nothing about just the radio. I would probably pull the center console off, unscrew/bolt the stereo and separate the wiring harness from the frame/other harnesses for starters. If you still saw the same problem I would disconnect the rear speakers and try and replicate the problem, then the fronts to try and determine if something in the speaker wiring is doing it. Since everything is wire nutted that should be fairly easy.
  • thanks man ill try that
  • kay so i finally got around to tearing into it, found a loose ground, resecured and turned the key and it came right on! thanks for the help!

    Hi ALL,
Can you please tell me if the ground was part of the speakers or the fan wiring harness?
  • it actually turned out to be an ignition switch.
