Please help for Oxygen Sensor Removal

I am planning to replace O2 sensor but I notice that there is not enough room to achieve enough leverage. I use O2 sensor socket, 10" and 3" extension, 3/8 drive ratchet.
Do I need to remove fan, ac hose, or heat shield to make enough room? Or do I need to get other tools?

Thanks

    it is tight.

i find a 7/8ths box end works best. or 22mm if u have that instead.

you may need to remove the fan. takes like 2 minutes...

Jack it up, remove the splash shields below the radiator, and get it from the bottom.

I tried to remove it several days following advice but I couldn't. Yesterday, I brought my wagon to local garage. He tried PB thing, torch, and others but he couldn't pull it out. He gave up. He said it is stuck like welded. What should I do? Sould I take it to other garage? If I take it to dealer, is it possible to replace it? Do I need to replace exhaust manifold unless o2 is not loosen out?

    Please Help!

If I know I'm going to replace it anyways, I usually just hammer or saw off the sensor so I can get a regular short 6 point socket on it. Plus hitting it with some pb blaster. Oh, and a 1/2" breaker bar with maybe even the handle from your jack for more leverage should do it. That or it will break your socket. Basically, until you're breaking wrenches and sockets you could use more force lol.

Sounds like the mechanic did everything unless he did it wrong.Try this.I don't know if it'll work?

The 6 pt socket is very important.12 pt. slip.
I took a deep 6 point socket.Ground a hole on the side of the sckt to slip the wire through.Don't remember if I cut or removed the connector.
Started the engine.Let idle till the electric fan comes on.20 minutes? This is the poor man way of doing it w/o a torch.
    Loosen the o2 sensor.
    Hopefully this works.

    Good Luck.

  • I just went through this
I had two broken manifold bolts and it was leaking to begin so I just pulled the manifold off
cut the sensor and used an impact gun on it. I tried every thing before pulling the manifold. then the paycheck came in so i picked up two bolts and a new manifold gasket. extracted the broken bolts, put it back together and torqued to 24 foot pounds. did the job the right way "in my situation"

worst case is you just pull the manifold off to get it.

I like oem parts but i needed my car so i got a felpro gasket for 16$ same day. No problems so far. tooke me 1.5 hrs "some reason i got an itch to flush the coolant 8) "
good luck watch the radiator

EDIT, my bad just looked at the post dates :|
