90 FWD in NC

Hi - Why hasn't any car maker (including Honda) been able to match the cargo capacity, performance, and economy of the Civic Wagon? Our '90 FWD 5-spd is still going strong -- bone stock with original valves, rings, clutch, and 191K miles. I've had fancier cars, but never a better car.
bad:
- It burns oil, about 1 quart per 1000 miles. Keeping it in gear going downhill causes a puff of smoke when starting up at the bottom, and it can take a couple seconds for the 02 sensor to clear off.
- hood and roof are sun-faded and missing most of the clearcoat
- small rust spot on driver-side rear fender
- minor shimmy in steering @ 60mph (none at higher/lower speeds)
good:
- never been in any accident
- runs great
- recent major service including TB, water pump, brake rebuild
- I'm third owner, bought car in CA in '99
- includes optional set of Yakima racks
