Truckness?

I'm noticing the carpet in the back of my wagon is very dirty and always ends up getting pushed out of the way. So I've decided to take on the project of converting it to a truck bed type thing. I'm planning on stenciling the carpet onto some plywood and coating it in Line-X and I want to know if anybody has tried this and if they have pictures, warnings, or suggestions. Thanks :D

    Alright!
Haha, awesome, I have to wait until this weekend because my sister is borrowing the wagon while we fix her DA. I'll post some pictures of the process if it gets done this weekend :D
  • I'm in to see what you come up with. I'd love to replace the dingy carpet in the back with something useful. Question though...would you include the back of the seat for when you have the seats folded down?

Make sure the seat release knobs are out of the way, fold the bottom bench forwards and then fold the back piece down. It should make it completely flat in the back. That's how i hauled stuff in the Wagons. :)

Oh, good point dub. I'm probably going to come up with something thinner to go on the back of the seat but I'll have to figure out how to mount it on the back. Yea, I'm not sure if I'll have things that large to haul that won't go on the roof, but I might just do it for future needs. :D

I have a friend that uses his EF hatch to haul parts from the junk yards, and he was debating on putting truck bed liner in the back also. I think it would be a smart move. You could always cover it with carpet later down the road and it would definitly keep it from rusting from the inside out, and if you spill anything inside all you have to do is wipe it out

Yea, that's one of the reasons I wanted to do it. I think it's a good utility mod.

I might start today by putting the carpet on some plywood and tracing it out. I pulled the carpet off saturday and I'll probably take off the metal flap that covers the spare.

My sister has taken my car for the past 2 or 3 weeks, I won't be able to finish this for a while :\

Oh boy. I want to buy a wagon, chop the back off of it and make it a pickup truck! I wonder if that's structurally even possible
  • 8 months and no truckness :( I've given it up because I can't find time to go get some plywood, now onto my auto-->manual/dpfi-->mpfi/turbo build :D

Remember the old drop-in bed liners for pickups? They're one-piece units...plastic...and they cut up pretty easily. I've had mine in there for years...love it! :-)

Here's a pic of the back end. I took one piece and cut it to cover the floor (held in by gravity), then cut two more pieces to cover the backs of the back seats when they lay down (held in with self-tapping screws randomly and blindly placed here and there). Amazingly enough, it's worked out WONDERFULLY for several years now! :-)

    Ha ha thats dope

Thx...the carpet was dirty and then I spilled tranny fluid all over the place. At that point I decided to just start ripping carpet out and didn't stop until it was out from underneath the seats up front too. Now I gotta figure out where I can steal...er...acquire some more silver truck bed liner so I can custom fab some "carpet" for up front floor mats! :-)

Well there ya go! I used a sawzall and a rotary tool to cut mine up. Trial and error fitment worked well enough for my needs. :-)

Ive already put a 1st gen crv factory table back there for suport, it fits perfect under the original carpet

Thats pretty nice. It would be cool to get one custom formed for the hatch.

Yeah...I thought about going all-out and covering the sides of the back end area, the back rear door and everything...but eventually I really want to find some UK/British rear side panels with the pockets (I think that's the only market that had the pockets???), plus I liked being able to use the little built-in cubbies in the floor.
  • While I was building the drunk deck, I had an idea similar...

I was thinking about getting some bamboo flooring and throwing some velcro on it and bam...instant dance floor.
but I haven't done it yet...and the truck liner thing looks really damn sweet.
