New from IL (finally got wagon)

Hi everyone new guy here! So here's my first post and i need your thoughts on buying a wagon. ( I really want one)

So i found a car from oregon and possibly buying it tomorrow (for sure) but 1st i need your comments, suggestions, thoughts, opinions, before i buy this car. So here's the details about it, no rust!

1988 Honda Civic 2wd
Price: $3,490
Mileage: 135,302
Exterior Color: White
Transmission: AUTO
Drivetrain: FWD

Im planning to ship the car with DAS(dependable auto shippers) and i have a quote for $967.00 door to door.
The guy said it is in good/clean interior/exterior and has only 1 owner(saw the carfax).

Will cost me about $4467 just to have a wagon shipped here in ILLINOIS...
I have to talk again to the guy if i can lower the price on the car and DAS if i can get discount for the shipping so i can lower the cost im gonna spend.
So what do you think guys? Is it worth it?

Thanks in advance!

edit:got a wago finally!

  • Watch Craigslist.

An RTawd just disappeared in Chicago with 117k $2200 asked...

I think i seen the same wagon in other adds, don't know about how much rust.

We have a RTawd with 106k, very minor rust - everything works, fresh oil, radiator flush, new rotors and brakes all the way around and an alignment - all the bushings are good - the four wheel drive is awesome in this snow! Oh yea, cloth interior, no rips and six speed.

Can let ya have it for less than you are ready to spend.

Respond to this offer right here and the board sends me an email.

    I'm in South Bend, In.

  • Way too much for that car, my buddy just bought the same thing, a 1988 2WD, auto, 89K original miles for $2300, and his came with the passenger mirror, rear muds, and pods. Offer the guy $2200 max

And that quote from DAS is crazy. I use them for all my vehicles, and you never wanna go door to door. Use their drop-point to drop-point system when you chose a car.
  • Way too much, unless you really want it. That wagon is super nice though for it's age, it should get a premium. But not that much. I'd price it at $2500, and that's being generous.
  • thanks for the replies guys now i made up my mind i wont get this car. i have prospect to be my project car if i dont buy this wagon from oregon. there is one of the junkyards here in IL that have a wagon brown in color but no engine, i remember the last time i went there it was in good shape exterior is complete with all the tailights intact as well as the interior. but i have to check it out again on sat. i'll take a picture of it so you guys can see it.

btw should we continue this topic under this thread or should i moved it to the right thread?
  • If it had history of pedigree and
    thoroughbred-goodies eg roofrack
    or full-option(s), boost...

it is a good lookin car, if the price was right
    but that aint so (yet)
    these are the wellfounded facts.

  • the wagon from the junkyard is gone, just went there this morning and they're cleaning up. so back to looking again...

WOW that is just like mine but I got mine for $650 (orginally posted @750) Just keep using craigslist and keep your eyes open, you will find a good deal. Granted mine has a slipping trans, but I am doing a swap to mine soon. Although if I was to keep it in stock form, I would estimate a used trans, torque converter and fluids would not run me more than $400. Good luck!
  • yea im from chicago il, was looking for a long time than one popped out on craigs in ohio drove 5 hours for a rt4wd for 700 bucks and my ps3 lol, so dont stop looking man
  • thanks guys... i hope i will find one soon.
  • hey guys just found this, what do you think how much i will offer this guy? http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/emjbmartinez/Wagovan%20OH/
he's aking 750obo... thinking to go get it this weekend.

If you don't mind the work it needs I'd say the 750 is a good deal. Any more info on this? Does it run?
  • yeah, the guy said it does run, and oh i forgot to mention it has 297k miles already not to be exact but it is in that range..
he also mention that this car is his dd and doing 60 miles everyday. he said its rt4wd but running fwd now coz the guy he bought it from removed the bolt or something on the drive-shaft so idk. hes asking obo still so i would take advantage of that just want to have an idea how much i should offer him.
  • JDMWago666JDMWago666 Senior Wagonist
Offer him $600 and see if he takes it. Say you're going to need a new motor soon since most/not all only last slightly above 300k on mileage and the RT set up will need to be checked. If he doesn't take that than offer him 700 cash. He'll most likely take that. Good find though.
  • Thats too much rust in my opinion. Find a rust free one somewhere in the country, have it shipped to you. You'll be way happier driving around a clean wagon than a rust bucket. And thats a lot of miles.
  • new option, i got an offer to our fellow hcw member named phixx. getting his project wago(white) on sat, it doesn't run but no rust. i'll prolly go on that. shell is 73+++ miles, pretty fresh inside and out just few dings. no big deal to me rather than getting the one from OH. anyway, thanks for the suggestions guys... i appreciate it.
  • just got back from MO, and finally got a wagon!!! :D
thanks to phixx for letting me buy his wago... such a great guy, helps us a lot!
