Maybe getting a wagon soon.

Hey everybody. So I might be picking up an rt this week/weekend. It's in the middle of no where for sale for 350 with one bad tire and a 'bad starter relay' which I'm hoping is the main relay so I can just resolder it and fire it up. Anyways. Just looking for some suggestions on what to look for specifically when I do go look at this wagon, things that are common problems. Not worried about rust or cosmetics but things mechanically that are easy to check.

Wiring, all plugs are there, leaks, can't really think of anything else mechanically that can be checked without the car running.

    Got an email from him.

After checking out the Honda yesterday, it is in a garage in Glacier, I noted a few things

It is a 1988 Honda Civic Wagovan
240K miles, it started after the battery was jumped, ran fine, the problem was when it was stopped being driven a year ago is that once warmed up sometimes it doesn't start again right away (ie: drive it for 40 miles, get gas and it won't restart for a little while?) The glove box is partially broken, front seat is wobbly, an exhaust manifold would benefit it, door hinge on drivers side is broke (happens to most civics), one of the retread tires became untreaded and the spare is currently on it.
In the last 15k miles: the radiator has been replaced, brake pads all the way around, master cylinder, there has been a lot of TLC put into this car, gaskets, hoses, timing belt is in good condition. Stereo works most of the time, no seatbelts in the back for some reason. Comes with chains for the tires and a haines manual. I am asking $325 firm for the car. I really will not go below $325. It is there if you want it, I have a few other people that I have been playing phone tag with who want it. I can show it to you sometime this week if you like.

Sounds like the main relay just needs to be soldered. I like that it's had some maintenance done to it too.

For $325? That's it? I'd be all over it. That's me though. With the list of "problems" you just need to give it some tlc and it'll be a great car. I got $325 right now, where is it? lol I'm just kidding about me picking it up but I'd go for it if I were you.

Yea I'm all over it it's just in such a remote location and it's been snowing quite a bit lately. Plus I have school and work. I'm going to slip it in there somewhere. This is one of those deals that I NEVER find lol.
  • If you got space & time I say you restore that baby I guarantee you'll feel really good about saving that wagon, GL man! oh and if you can make a thread about the restore I always enjoy reading about restores :D

Yea that's what I figure. Not too sure about the exterior as far as restoring goes though. I did the whole fix rust do bodywork and paint on my accord and it just makes me too paranoid to drive my car daily. I want this car to be one I can drive behind semi's in and take out in any weather and maybe even take off road / camping in. Hell I'll even feel better just knowing that if I do get a door ding, it will just blend in with the rest, instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.
