Now try a manual rack with the Quaife rack and pinion guts in it. That's a measured 2.4 turns lock to lock (advertised 2.82). Now throw some 285/30-18s on the front of the car with about 200 ft/lbs of torque and an LSD. You wanna talk about steering effort? Try aching biceps after a 45 second autocross run.
Jaker, I know this post is over a year and a half old, but I've been rocking my Quaife equipped CRX at the track, on the street and at the autoX for almost 3 years now and I really like it.
Though, I am only rolling 225/45-15 Hoosiers at the autoX and track...but it's been just fine on the street. I'm kind of a bigger guy, so maybe that has something to do with it, and I have had others that have driven my car mention the weight of the steering, but I love it. ...well, everywhere but the parking lot.
The wagon will be getting one, too...actually, it will be getting the one out of the CRX when I put in a new Quaife.
I was fine until I put the 285/30-18s on. I also had people comment on how heavy my steering was, and I did just fine with it for years running either 225/45-15 Hoosiers or 225/50-15 V710s on the 8.5" wide wheels. Then I put the big tires on with the really wide (10.5") wheels (much wider offset) and it became undriveable for all intents and purposes.
