Hello-Hello

My name is MIke and I am in California.
I bought a 1985 AWD Wagon, manual, 1.5L carb.
It had been on a ranch and not registered for over 10 years.
Dirty and some rust. (yea 4 Por 15)
Low miles. Overall good body.
2 windows needed replacement, already done.
Changed all fluids. Bad gas in the tank & engine. Pulled gas tank, cleaned and sealed. Replaced hoses and fuel lines.
Carb was bad. rebuilt carb.
Turns out, #1 cylinder is bad. Darn.
So, I need a rebuild or new engine.
Getting expensive, but I like this car.
I see a few links to various engine swaps, but none that I can see that address mine.
Is there a viable engine exchange I can do with another engine or year?
I am not a mechanic, so I will not be rebuilding myself. I would rather just swap.
Anyway, great info in here and I am looking forward to learning more and fixing up "The Honda".
Mike

Hi there!
My name is Matt, and mine is an '87, but other than that... ME TOO!
Didn't have a carb issue or a cylinder issue yet...
You should check your cv joints, and your u joints and viscous coupler in the driveline. These commonly go out on this car. Also you might check your distributor.
And if you're after performance, I would definitely look at redpepperracing.com they are much more interested in racing/ricing out these older carburetted hondas (wago or not). I beleive you can swap in an si head... but you should look there first.
good luck!
Mike in CA.
Thnks for the reply. I had been to the Red Pepper page - tons of good stuff there. I guess I will have to learn all the engine names and codes pretty quick. LOL
Since it appears I have to rebuild the engine, I can keep it stock, or upgrade.
I am confused about the swaps though, as from what i have read so far, I don't see any that relate to the AWD, 5spd wagon engine-trans. For a regular Civic, it seems easier.
Maybe just a rebuild would be better, since I have already rebulit the carb - no sense in letting it go to waste.

Finally got my engine work done. Had to swap for a used one, new carb, radiator. Heck, replaced most everything in the engine compartment. Runs great.
New tires.
Now I need Shocks & Struts. Aftermarkets are what is on it now.
Very hard to tell what will fit or not looking online. Most all say not for wagon or AWD.
Ant ideas or links to what will work?
I could just go to Midas I guess. ;(
Thanks
