I guess it's that time. My wagobuild thread. Updated.

Hey everyone. Now that I finally got my wagon and am not quite as ashamed of it, It's BUILD THREAD TIME!!!

Anyways, a little about me. I'm young, still in school, and trying to start a business. We shall see. ENOUGH ABOUT ME!

Wagon.
Here she is about half way home.
699.jpg

Lots of driving, and expensive to rent a trailer and feed that monster. About ~$300 later, heres where she was. When I bought it, it didn't run and it was FILTHY. You'll see what I mean soon.

898.jpg
899.jpg

Not perfect, but she's decently straight bodywise. Nothing I can't fix. and of course...mandatory back wheel well rust.
900.jpg
Bleck.
And just for fun, I threw the wing off my Mustang on it. :D
901.jpg

But anyways, I didn't get any pictures of the first day of work, but basically I just started sanding down some of the rust. Trying to stop what I can before it gets worse, as the weather is getting bad here.

Heres a little prelude to what I did on my second day of Wagoneering. (Hehe, see what I did there? Prelude? Hah!)
902.jpg
My CRX delivering parts. I'm afraid I'm going to have to sell my CRX, but that just means I'll have a little money left over for the wagon.

So, my second day of wagoneering began with this.
Rusty steelies were pulled, rust was taken off and then sprayed with Duplicolor Rust-Fix. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, takes quite a few coats though.
903.jpg

and the front calipers got the same treatment.
904.jpg

which lead to...I'm not sure if I like this (Whether I don't like the wheels on the wagon, or whether I hate depriving my CRX of its shoes, I'm not sure)
905.jpg

Taped off to paint the trim, but the weather was garbage today so I didn't get the chance to. You can see it has a few dents that I will fix, but all and all, not bad for a $200 car.

On my third day of wagoneering, the weather gave to me!
No opportunity to paint my trim, so I started cleaning the seats...UUhm...You just have to see for yourself.

Here are the back seats...
906.jpg

Uuhm...yeah...
Picture doesn't really do it justice, it was GROSS.

So after a few hours of cleaning, this is what I got them to. They need more cleaning, but my back hurt after being hunched over and it started to rain again.
907.jpg

Aaaand one more picture. I'm going to keep my mouth shut for plans on what I want to do, as I usually tell a bunch of people and then never get to it. So, in hopes of changing that habit, You don't get to know! but heres a little something anyways. Engine I got for free from my grandfather, should be rebuilt and needs some cleaning. Oh, and it's a single cam, not a dual.

That's it for now! Thanks for looking!

    It's fun =p 1989 F350 Centurion.

Anyways, I think it looks better. Didn't get a chance to do the front bumper =/ I had to run to the store with my girl and help cook for the family right after I got the trim done.

That centurion is a pretty rare bird! I work for ford and we have a six door yes I said six door long bed in the shop at the moment.

I like it, it's a sweet truck. Rides nice, 1 ton running gear, comfortable for lots of people. Just wish ours was a diesel and not a 460.

Anyways, took my wagon for its maiden voyage today. After whining to my father about it for a while apparently, my mother convinced my dad to buy me an upper radiator hose. Mine was bulged, but it was working fine for the time being.

After driving a while, the damned thing started to overheat. Not a slow overheating either, a "holy crap look at how high that gauge is rising!" overheat. I babied it home and hopped in my crx. I'm hoping it's air in the system or something equally as easy, because I didn't have this problem before.
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
Pin hole leak between the top and core of my radiator blew my fluid everywhere. Stopleak for a temporary fix, and my wagon is drivable again! Back to fun restoration stuff.

Long time no update! I think I'll do this chronologically. I haven't done a terrible lot as I spent the last six months finishing school, but I've accumulated a lot of parts.

    Buying parts!

It was burning a bit of oil, but nothing terrible. I didn't go with the ZC I had, I got a D16Z6 for free instead. Came out of my uncles Del Sol. In with the new!

That's about it for progress. Bought a welder and some nice stuff too though, so rust fixing will happen shortly.

so I don't have much for pictures to show right now, but heres an update on my wagon. Progress has started again.

I finished the Z6 swap and got her running. Turns out my wiring is a bit fubar. Not sure if its stuff in my harness not matching up, or just wires going to the wrong place in the Rywire conversion harness, but I'm sorting it out now. Only error code I'm getting is for the IACV, and I'm thinking its just a wire in the wrong place. I'll know tomorrow.

The wagon rusted a bit this winter, so my passenger rear well has a few holes now. That means its paint time. I'm going to sand it down, fill all the small dents, and fix the rust in the rear. Not sure what color I'll paint it yet, but I'll probably use white primer so it looks decent until I can get some paint.

Oh yeah. And things got a lot bigger

  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
Started sanding, figured some of you folks might appreciate seeing a wagon down to its factory primer =p

    905.jpg

Hood and passenger fender are pretty messed up, not sure what I'm going to do about that yet =/

Looks like a good start. If you list where you are located I'm pretty sure some members here will help you find parts.
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
I'm in Washington. I'm sure somebody has the parts, thats the next thing on my list. The rest of my turbo setup will be showing up shortly though, so bodywork will cease for a little while. I thought I had location in my profile D: Guess I better fix that.
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
    bit of an update.

Finished up the paint, but it didn't work so well on my hood. I'll go back over the roof, hood and hatch again properly at some point. Also found all of my painting gear, so it will look better than the spray paint. Lol.

    Heres a few pics.
    1022.jpg
    1023.jpg

Anyways. The rest of my turbo oil lines showed up, but they sent me the wrong pieces. As I'm tired of waiting, I think I'll just say to hell with it and fab up/modify the pieces I have to work. DSM 450s, chipped P28 IIRC, turbo off a 2g eclipse. Should be nice.
  • Bit of an update. My wagon is now running a T25 turbo on a stock d16z6. No intercooler right now because I need to order more charge piping, but no signs of detonation on 6psi so that's where it will stay for now.

I'll have some pictures and maybe a video or two before long. Not much, but I'm pretty pleased with it. Built the entire setup from scratch with a welder and my own two hands. Pretty cool.

would love to see some more pics. that is awesome that you fabbed it up youself
  • bit of an update, finally got everything sorted today I think.

Had my battery behind the passenger seat originally, as I was concerned about room in the engine bay. Yeah no, Wasn't real comfortable with that. Spent some time today moving battery back to the stock location, and rerouted my charge piping. Fixed a few wiring issues caused by some unintended rubbing...hopefully done blowing my ECU fuse now.

Heres what she looks like as of now. Runs decently well, but I'm trying not to drive it too much or too hard (nowhere above 4500rpm) until I get injectors and a tune running. Don't want a broken wagon.
    33.jpg

Here's some pics of the what I did. This was all straight 2.5" exhaust sections when I started. Yay pie cuts!

Bit of an update for my wagon. Decided today I need to get rid of my Foxbody, it's been sitting idle in my yard for a year now and I don't want to deal with it. Took the seats out. Sooo....this happened.

    353.jpg

They fit really well. Should be able to retain stock seatbelts and such just fine. Currently debating modifying the stock wagon seat rails and welding the recaro to them, or making a set of brackets so I can return to stock if I need to. Leaning towards modifying and welding things up. Will have the driver seat mounted tomorrow.

Also expecting a package on thursday with an AEM Wideband, and a box from Xenocron with my flash burner and stuff to chip my stock P28. Then I'm all good to go!
  • Very nice progress, can't wait to see more. I love turbo wagons!

diy for the win.nice sparkplug wires.
  • very nice build man i have a wagovan and all is good but i have honda rust to its pretty bad did you do your body work your self and if so mabe u can throw some pointers my way as into how to do body work or maybe somewhere i can find knowledge on how to srry to bother and great build so far
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
Yeah, I did the bodywork myself. I have it pretty easy though, I have a dual orbital air sander that I use. Makes sanding entire cars down pretty painless, just time consuming. Just make sure you are thorough when getting rid of the rust, you don't want any left underneath of your paint. I used a combination of sandpaper, chemicals, and some pretty abrasive diamond grinding wheels on my handheld grinder. Good luck with getting it fixed man, best to take care of it sooner than later.

Anyways, a bit of an update on my car. I never did get the seat mounted fully. I got the mounts all tacked up, but when I went to them it literally fell apart. Crappy tack welds, yay! It was a crappy day so I just said screw it and threw my stock seat back in. A few more parts had showed up that needed attention anyways.

Finally got a few good sensors so I can monitor what my car is doing. Got an AEM wideband off a friend for a good price, and an exhaust gas temp. sensor. Also got my package of stuff from Xenocron. Everything I need to chip my ECU, a basemap for my car, and a burn2 so I can play with tuning my car myself a bit. It's always been something I wanted to learn to do.

That's all fine and dandy, now I just need my turbo manifold to stop coming apart! Lol.

    Heyyyyyyy. I'm baaaaackkkkkkk.

Been really busy for the past what...Almost a year, I guess. Got a job working for a buddy that just started his business, so that has taken a lot of my time. Working on starting my custom CNC machining business, so look for cool custom wagovan brackets and general swag coming your way soon :D I think of so much crap to make while working on this car.

Car is still mostly in the same shape. Bodywork is done however, the dents are all filled and blended nicely. Paint will come soon.

Also have a shop to work in now, which is banging and makes doing stuff a lot more enjoyable.

As soon as I finish this part. Picture time.

    Bought a box.
    418.jpg

    Bought some injectors.
    419.jpg

Did a little bit of fab and mockup. Converted to half rad for some extra space in there.
    420.jpg

Aaaaaaand routed the piping. Holes in frame, notches, ruining structural integrity, etc.
    421.jpg

Thats about it for now. Working on getting my ECU chipped this evening, but my solder braid has disappeared on me. When I can get a new roll, I'll have my new chip stuff in the ECU and be ready to start getting the car tuned.

Good to see you back from the dead. Looking forward to more updates, this build is really coming together. Good luck!
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
Got off work earlier to get some stuff done. All thats left now is bolting the car back together. Trimming the bumper, reinstalling the radiator, and blammo.

  • how are you going to get rid of the dent on the front of the hood? i have the exact same dent :/
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
Got her back together tonight. She moved under her own power for the first time in a month or so. Got my A/F gauge and things hooked back up, and somethings amiss.

Not sure if the chip Xenocron burnt me for a basemap is just really running that lean, or if I've got a leak in my in my downpipe letting in air. Was going to drive it tonight, but I think with it running at beyond 18:1 according to my gauge, I'll try to solve that problem first.
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
how are you going to get rid of the dent on the front of the hood? i have the exact same dent :/
I'm thinking im going to use a combination of heating and cooling it, and a slide hammer. Hopefully it comes out, I dont want to have to buy a new hood. I already need a fender and a corner light.
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
She's being a pain in the ass. When I step on the throttle and hold its position, the RPM rises to that point, but then it stutters a bit and goes lean and my vacuum seems to drop a bit. Revs out pretty nice, just doesn't seem to want to hold. Also still lean.

Think I'm gonna buy a few new chips, throw the Xenocron in a box somewhere as a backup, and start building a new tune for the car from scratch.
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
too bad yer so far away ive got a burner
  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
I've got a burner too, I just forgot to order extra chips D:

Also I made a stupid. After a bit more diagnosing, I kinda remembered that those injectors are double stock.

And I still have my stock fuel pump in.

    Whoops.
Walbro 255 ordered, will be here wednesday.

And for your viewing pleasure, you can watch my car running lean here!

  • ApocalypsoxApocalypsox New Wagonist
New fuel pump is in, I took some pictures for future reference for other people. Couldn't find much info on the DIY for us 2wd wagons, so I figured why not. I'll put that together in the next few days.

I cut the stamped section out where there should have been an access plate, and added an access plate for future work.

Fuel pump helped with my not holding rev problem, but the tune is still just super lean. I'm gonna save the Xenocron tune chip, and I just ordered some new eproms. Gonna go ahead and burn myself a new tune and start getting it hammered out.

Drove it, though. When the car transitions into boost, it goes rich like it should and runs fine. Its just the idle that sucks, and it won't hold revs below about half throttle. Fun though.
