Wagon Noob. Hi from 417 (SWMO)!

Hey everyone. New guy here from SW MO. Springfield to be exact. Anyway.... hoping to be a decent addition and post some. Really here to do a bunch of searches and a bunch of reading. Just sold my car and will be picking up my wagon here later this week. It currently belongs to a family friend who has owned it for 12 years. The day he drove up in it I was blown away (didnt know they existed), and told him I wanted to buy it if he was ever to sell it. WELL..... that time has come luckly for me!!

It is a 87 RT Civic. Lt. blue in color and around 120K on the miles. Rust free and all there. I have some different plans for it, and what I have read, non traditional. Seems like everyone wants to lower theirs, but I want to raise mine :D . That and a D16 w/ boost

BTW.......... the name is Zach and I'm 33.

Past cars in order from most recent to oldest:

1999 Q45 (sold last week)
1998 Civic LX
2004 Tribute AWD
1993 740iL
1998 Accord Wagon
1991 Galant VR-4
1991 Galant VR-4
1992 Diamante
1995 Talon TSi AWD
1995 Eclipse GS
1993 MX-6
1991 Geo Metro (1st Car @ 16)

  • Can you bolt up a D16A1 to your 4WD tranny?

Not sure about that one in particular, but I know for sure some D-series do. I am lucky enough to have an acquaintance here locally who has been doing Honda swaps into everything for the last 15 years. I know him as Tony w/ 2nrs of Springfield. Here are just a few of his recent builds........

    Kale's Turbo Accord 11.0@129
    James's turbo s2000 11.4@124
    Fishel's allmotor crx 11.70@114
    Tony's turbo civic coupe 10.33@145
    His allmotor civic 10.8@125
    Joviar's turbo delsoul 10.9@133

He is running an all motor Civic going 10.8 @ 125. He told me he can keep my 4WD w/ a D series so I trust him. I originally asked him if he could do it with an F22, but he told me quickly there just isnt enough room to shoehorn it in  . So SOHC Vitara built D16 is coming soon :D

Sorry to hear some newbies don't hang around. I've been lurking for a few and it seems this is a great forum. That is a great change of pace from my local 417racing.com which is just a Soap Opera for local men. A lot of entertainment, but just not much of a close nite community which I am hoping to find here. Just too bad we are all located so far away! Pretty cool club it looks like!

Posting his credentials does nothing for me. I could care less. The 84-87 cars are different than the 88-00's. They had D series motors but they are a little different. I used to have an 87 Si hatch and I know it was kind of hard to do swaps for those cars. That is why I was asking. I thought I remembered them saying the D16A1 would bolt up to the 4WD trannies, but it was years ago, so I might be wrong. At any rate, you will probably have to convert to fuel injection which was also a hurdle for 84-87 Civics looking to swap. They did have performance carbs and manis for the D16's and D15's but they were kind of hard to come by.

I have that same problem with the 86 CRX I have....damn carbs. But from my understanding the 88+ d16a6 won't work with out modification, and what not. But the brown top 85-86 d16a6 drops in, and you have to do the carb-fi swap...big hassle.
  • I don't know. I sold my 87 back in 2004. I still regret it to this day.
  • i miss my 87 ,if only i would have took a rigth an not a left that old mad would have never totaled my shuttle =[

Why is this? I feel like I'm the only guy with an '87 on here! :P
  • Almost all of the tech and DIY articles are for the 88-91 wagons.

I refer people to redpepperracing.com which is the place to go for 84-87 Civics/CRXs
