Rear mount battery ground?

I'm installing an odyssey battery in my spare tire well, and have been looking around for good grounding point. wondering where some of you have grounded your battery.

any help is greatly appreciated

I would run a cable all the way back up to the original location (or somewhere on the engine block/trans.). You could ground through the body, but you'd be asking for trouble. IF you do go that route, be sure to add a ground strap from the frame apron to the tranny.
  • I agree with bam-bam, just run the cable back up to the original point of contact.

thanks for your input guys. I'm still doing some research on it also. here are some pics of what's going on.

I'm glad I didn't cut up any of the factory stuff. I may hold off till I get more info. I really don't want to fry my harness.

If anyone has a pic of what their setup looks like, please post them.

    Thanks again guys.
  • I didnt want to run 25 ft. of 0 gauge so I made a box for inside drivers fender.
  • I would ground it to the pass side frame rail at the rear using at least a 4 gauge in addition to running a 4 or 8 gauge to the factory location. Make sure to use a wire wheel to remove the paint and then put something over it to seal it up (I just use grease).

More importantly is how you fuse the positive. Using that circuit breaker in the engine bay is just inviting disaster. You need a 100A fuse as close to the positive battery post as possible. All that wire between the post and your circuit breaker (those often fail btw) is unprotected. Disregard this if you have that in your setup and it's not shown in the pics.

You also have to be extremely careful in how you grommet it through the firewall. Sorry if I'm lecturing the obvious stuff but I can't tell you how many times I've seen bad installs and how many cars I've heard of burning to the ground.

    Fender mount FTW.

I like it! I've wanted to get the battery out of my bay since i did my tuck. Of course driving around daily without a spare is just a royal pain in the ass waiting to happen.
  • I have the battery in my CRX in the spare well but have been thinking about the fender mount for a little while now...
