Random clicking noises when stopping and starting.

Sometimes in the morning I'll start my car, back it up, and turn and hear a pop or a click coming from the driver's underside. I have a RTAWD 88 D16a6 (completely stock) wagon with 220,000 miles. Any suggestions on things that I could check to see what the problem is? I wanna get this girl running top notch!

My first thought would be CV joint. Inspect them and wheel bearings closely.

CV's usually click when they are on their way out. Do you hear any wub-wub-wub sounds while driving? That would be a bad wheel bearing sound to listen for too.

No "wub wub wub" noises. Its literally when I'm coming to a complete stop, or starting from a stop, and it doesn't happen every time either.

Since its the transition of backing up to going forward, it may be the brake pads shifting in the caliper brackets.

Interesting thought, that's on my list of things to do next is replace the brakes. I want to do a rear brake conversion however.

No, it doesn't sound too damaging to be honest. And it hasn't happened much lately either. I think when I decide on some suspension ill resolve it. Any suggestions on suspension? Lol

Tension arm bushings are probably shot. Mine are doing this as well, pinging/clicking when slowing to a stop or taking off from a stop. Kinda cheesy, but hasn't bothered me enough to fix it yet.

i was going to say that as well. some people call it the radius rod bushings. they make a huge difference and are easy to change.
