Seat belt light on when ignition is off?

My girlfriend has an 88 Civic DX Wagon that illuminates the seatbelt indicator light whenever the ignition is switched off. The light will operate normally with the ignition turned to ACC or ON, but stays illuminated when the key is turned off. None of the steering column wiring seems to be tampered with and the car is pretty much bone stock so I'm having a hard time tracing the problem.

Has anyone ever run into this before?
Thanks,
Parker

  • I would start by unplugging the seat belt wiring under the seat. My guess is a short in that plug would be a good place to look first.
