Who wants to see a new member do a K Swapped Wagovan?

Been browsing since I bought my Wagovan in May. I will be doing a Kswap in it and will be posting progress as I go along. Mounts already welded and getting ready for paint. I hope you all will enjoy.

Did you use a different gearset? Why did you decide to go with the A3 trans?

Hope all goes well with the swap.

I'm impressed. Finish it up and let's see it!

I decided on the A3 tranny because of drag racing the car and simple highway RPM's. I am running the Z3 tranny in my hatch and driving on the highway at 70MPH is at around I think 3200 which is High and loud. I also have to switch into 5th gear at the track. Ouch. I will eventually put in the si lsd in the ep3 tranny but for a car I will drive a lot, The 5 speed will suffice. Reason 2 is that I picked up the tranny for next to nothing with a grind so I figured with a rebuild it will be next to new. As far as gearing goes, I am running stock ratios. Should be fine on the street and the track. I really am worried about the suspension thing right now. I want to go with Koni's but what springs. Maybe I will cheat for a bit and get those Raceland Coilovers. I don't want to be slammed but pretty low would be my choice. Suggestions are welcomed. Remember I will have a bit more weight in the front. BTW. Who has some extended tophats for me?

So I promised some pictures of progress, It doesn't look like much but it is a lot. Sanded bay down for paint. Cut out unneeded seam sealer. Applied finishing putty. It is now dry and needs a final sand. My body guy is going to weld in all the holes in the bay I am just getting the worst of the work out of the way. The body was really rusted in 1 spot on the passenger rear door so I made a new panel from scratch and welded it in. Fit is good just needs sanded down. Also found a wagovan in the junk yard and took all that I needed. My hatch now stays open on its own.

    body panel in.

    hatch open on its own.

I also ordered all that I need except the ecu from Hybrid Racing. Should be in this week.
Get excited this thing s only a few months from being on the road.

O yeah anybody have an idea on exhaust. I am gonna run it through the tunnel but where for the exit? Maybe dual through the middle? maybe 1 angled out the left or right. I don't know do we have a link for exhausts? It will be 3 inch I think just have to work out the details.

i like it when exhaust setups looks stock, but thats just me :D
  • austinsb3639austinsb3639 New Wagonist
Usually I am with you but this is more for function than form this time. The Shuttle's exhause is too small for the K-Motor and too many bends make it restrictive and the extra piping adds weight. I dont want a huge exhaust out of the back, something subtle and stock looking but I want to go with more of a straight exit. Do you guys have pictures of different ways you have routed exhaust?

  • Ill have to post a pic of mine .. runs right down the middle tunnel, up and over rear crossmember through the mid, angles towards drivers side and exits out the existing hole in the bumper, lets me put on an after market muffler with ease. Had mine done and my wagon buddy alexanderlewolf is planning on redoing his and his wife's the same way. Anyways, pics up tomorrow when its light out. :D
  • wow thats coming along nicely, cant wait to see more. also, your hatch is looking pretty great too
